HOW TO MOVE IN MAREMMA

The best way to get around Maremma is by bus or car.

Maremma is one of the largest territories in Tuscany, kilometers and kilometers of wild and uncontaminated nature, immense olive groves, endless vineyards and suggestive forests.

It is possible to travel far and wide across the Maremma by public transport, choosing the train or bus.

Getting around by bus

The entire Maremma area is served by the buses of the Tiemme company, which connect Grosseto, Florence, Siena, Marina di Grosseto, Castiglione della Pescaia, Alberese, Follonica, Scansano and Massa Marittima, the entire territory of the Fiora Valley, Monte Argenario, the Colline Metallifere and Amiata.

The cost of the ticket varies depending on the type of route you choose. For example, for a trip from Grosseto to Cascate del Mulino, 66 km away, the cost is around €6 one way. Tickets are also available at Tiemme ticket offices, tobacconists and newsstands.

The connection from big cities to small towns is often done by smaller buses, this happens for example to reach Saturnia from Manciano.

Getting around by train

It is possible to visit practically all of Maremma even by traveling by train. There are stations in all the main population centers of the area.

However, to reach the main cities, Florence, Siena, Rome and Pisa, it is necessary to start from Grosseto. The Rome-Pisa section also stops in Follonica, Alberese and Orbetello.

The other main railway stations in the Maremma are those of Albinia, Follonica, Orbetello-Monte Argentario. Albinia is the station to choose if you want to visit the Valle del Fiora area, while Follonica is ideal for reaching Massa Marittima and the Colline Metallifere.
